About Diamond Color
Usually it is considered that all diamonds have the same colorless sparkly color that takes your breath away. But that is not true. Not all the diamonds have the same color. The color quality depends on how many inclusions and impurities each diamond has. These inclusions and impurities are affecting the diamond spark, color. The impurities or foreign matter in the diamond is not allowing the light to pass thru the body of a diamond. It rather absorbs the light. The results are different diamond colors.
If you look at the color grade scale that is used by gemologists, the higher level on the scale is colorless. It means that the more colorless the diamond is, the higher is its sale price. So if the diamond has more color it sells for less money.
But sometimes the diamond has a lot of color it may be declared as a fancy diamond. Fancy diamonds are the most expensive diamonds on the market. Even more than colorless diamonds.
With a diamond grading scale you can find out what is the color of your diamond. There are different grading scales on the market. The best one is GIA’s grading scale that is used by most jewelers around the world.
GIA's GRADING SCALE
The color of a particular diamond can be seen on GIA’s written report.
The GIA color grading scale starts from a grade D, that is also most expensive color (colorless), and ends up with Z that means Yellow.
It is important to also purchase a GIA's grading report when buying a diamond so you can really see what is the real cost of a diamond.
